'Osdorp Posse' De Gonz, Gouda, friday July 3rd 2009.

Osdorp Posse (Amsterdam), 2-track recorded.
Friday July 3rd 2009, 'de Gonz' Gouda.
Tracks: Coming soon.

Note: in the middle of their farewell tour, these Amsterdam Posse, who pioneered Dutch languaged Hiphop, agreed to play a benefit-gig in support of the venue. The place was loaded and the guys were in great shape, making a hell of a party. Due to more channels needed than available, I got them recorded in mono, with scratches and computerized effects in a bit lower levels than wanted.

'Grote Prijs van het Groene Hart' De Gonz, Gouda, friday June 5th 2009.

2nd semi-finals ’Grote Prijs van het Groene Hart’ (Gouda/Woerden/Schoonhoven/Alphen ad Rijn), 2-track recorded.
Friday June 5th 2009, 2009, 'de Gonz' Gouda.
Note: After 12 years there was another band-contest organised. Initiated by ‘Plug Unit’-related ‘Rockschool’ in Reeuwijk, 20 bands played ‘De Gonz’ (Gouda), ‘Bastille’ (Schoonhoven’, ‘Kasteel’ (Alphen a/d Rijn) and ‘Babylon’ (Woerden), to get a spot in the finals held September 19th at ‘So What’ in Gouda. Making a merely last minute decision to record the night, I plugged a Flashrecorder into the PA at the very last minute. The recordings aren’t extremely well, but suitable for broadcast, after some digital reworking. ‘Roove’ won this evening.

Handsome Poets (Gouda/Reeuwijk).
Tracks: Kite Flight/Metamorphosis/This Train/Joy To The City/The Blues/Attitude/Carry The Day.

Note: this band started as a Praise/Gospel-unit, but switched to the more worldly music of Rock and Pop, with a slight touch of Funk, when singer Tabitha left. The band now plays two circuits, doing not quite bad at all.

Sheep & Guitar (Alphen a/d Rijn).
Tracks: Spider/Boom-Chic-A-Ba-Ba/Confusion Of Power/Knockin’ On Bathroom’s Door/Together/People/Smelly Socks.

Note: young Funkrockers, who didn’t impress too much this night.

Roove (Utrecht).
Tracks: Coming soon.

Note: Rock and Pop, with a touch of Funk. Still looking for a solid sound, made them win this night nevertheless.

Common People (Utrecht).
Tracks: Coming soon.

Note: young, eager band, playing a mix of Britpop and Belgian inspired rock and Pop. Didn’t do their best gig, but won the audience award.

The Mondegreens (Gouda/Moordrecht/Utrecht).
Tracks: .

Note: Punkrockband, which seem to play not at their best, at certain moments. Came in last, after playing at a Birthday Party in a stable, between haystacks and tractors in the freezing cold. Showed to have progressed majorly in a years period of time, but didn’t impress.

Mark Lotterman, 'Studio Gonz' Gouda, Saturday July 12th 2014.

Mark Lotterman (Rotterdam), 2-track recorded.
Saturday July 11th 2014, 'Studio Gonz' Gouda.
Tracks: November/Glad To Say I Love You/It Ain’t Only Sorrow/Hotel Room In Rome/The Shed/Hit Me When I’m Weak/The Hell That We Create/Wonder Where Time Goes (Solo)/Lou Reed (Solo)/Leaving For School (Solo)/Year Without Summer (Solo)/Something To Drink/Untill The End Of Days/Funny/I Miss You (Solo).

Note: closing a row of gigs in Gouda, Mark played a full band set in a optimistic and relaxed mood. Due to some minor technical difficulties, some of the songs have too soft vocals. Nevertheless a great show and recording.

Leonheart, 'Studio Gonz' Gouda, Saturday July 12th 2014.

Leonheart (Rotterdam), 2-track recorded.
Saturday July 11th 2014, 'Studio Gonz' Gouda.
Tracks: Everybody Come On/Moving On/Fairytales/Fakes/Lost/Lion’s Heart.

Note: great srt by Leonheart-duo, in support of Mark Lotterman’s set later that night. Slightly noisy audience, which nevertheless got gripped several times during the set.

Mitchell Rivers, 'Studio Gonz' Gouda, Saturday July 12th 2014.

Mitchell Rivers (Alphen ad Rijn), 2-track recorded.
Saturday July 11th 2014, 'Studio Gonz' Gouda.
Tracks: Out Of Sight/The Valley Down Below/Dying With Me//The Boarman’s Call (Nick Cave-cover)/.

Note: solo performance of ‘Joe Madman & The Sidewalkers’ frontman, showcasing his songwriting and musical skills even better in this both fragile and strong performance. Support to Mark Lotterman, who played later that night.

Drugsmokkel, Saturday September 3rd 2011.

Drugsmokkel (Rotterdam/Gouda), 2-track recorded.
Saturday September 3rd 2011, 'de Gonz' Gouda.
Tracks: Intro/Dope Sucks/Let’s Go/Disco Rock ‘n’ Roll/Drive In Liquor Store/9 To 5/Rock ‘n’ Roll Baby/Swingin’ In The Discolights/Paranoia Of Life/Rock ‘n’Roll Junkie/Live For Rock ‘n’ Roll/Drugsmokkel/Joules De La Tourette/Rocking Class Heroes/I Was Made For Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Note: Somewhat chaotic Punk ‘n’ Roll-trio, playing on a 4 band night. As usual, there were problems with the bassguitar, but all in all the set was recorded neatly. The band themselves had grown, as they seem to do with every gig.

dinsdag 9 november 2010

Osdorp Justice, July 3rd 2009.

Osdorp Justice (Amsterdam/Rotterdam), 2-track recorded.
Friday July 3rd 2009, 'de Gonz' Gouda.
Tracks: Chemoderniseerd/Weer Geen Club Hit/Platwalsen/Freestyle/Geen Slaap Tot Osdorp.

Note: closing a benefit-gig for the venue got Amsterdam Hiphop-unit ‘Osdorp Posse’ and Rotterdam based ‘Blind Justice’ reunite their late 90’s package of Ósdorp Justice’ for one more time. They played a 5-piece set, which fuelled the audience to the top. Making them dive into my equipment, which detached the recorder from the mixer for a while. This happened during ‘Platwalsen’, which means ‘Flatten Ém’. Some took this a bit literally, but no damage done in the end, apart from a short intermission in the recording.

Blind Justice, July 3rd 2009.

Blind Justice (Rotterdam), 2-track recorded.
Friday July 3rd 2009, 'de Gonz' Gouda.
Tracks: Firestarter (‘prodigy’-cover)/Bloed Uit Je Oren (Instr).

Note: this Metalband started in Gouda 20 years before and reinvented themselves to support former tourmates ‘Osdorp Posse’ on this benefit-gig in support of the venue. Using an inaudible bass-generator, the band was fun to see, but didn’t impress majorly. Unable to build up on forehand, I struggled to get all signals in my desk. Which resulted in only the last two songs of the set properly recorded.

Sidekick Bob - 'De Gonz' Gouda, February 2nd 2002.

Sidekick Bob. (Pijnacker), 4-track recorded.
Saturday February 2nd 2002, 'De Gonz' Gouda.
Tracks: She/Trip Abroad/Short Attention Span/Fang/Bodies/I Don't Drink/A.D./Evil/Psychodelic Love Affair/I.C.U./No It Doesn't/Sauberhalten/Tokyo/SKB.

Note: part 3 of a triple bill with ‘Mondo Bizarro’ and ‘The Riplets’. Fast punkrock with a cynical smile.Saw them play several times since then. Great people!

The Riplets - 'De Gonz' Gouda, February 2nd 2002.

The Riplets (Rotterdam), 4-track recorded.
Saturday February 2nd 2002, 'De Gonz' Gouda.
Tracks: I've Got Nothing/Hey Baby/5%/Take Us Away/Riplets Rock & Roll Beat/Silent Treatment/Sex On The Phone/Candy/Just Like You/Sick Of You/Slayer/I Wanna Be Your Girl/Porn In The USA/Bugs/Our Engine Is Running/Sheena Is A Punk Rocker.

Note: part 2 of a triple bill with ‘Mondo Bizarro’ and ‘Sidekick Bob’. Months before the recording and release of their debut-CD, a slightly loose trio played this fantastic gig. Too bad they quit!

Mondo Bizarro - 'De Gonz' Gouda, February 2nd 2002.

Mondo Bizarro (Pijnacker/Delft), 4-track recorded.
Saturday February 2nd 2002, 'De Gonz' Gouda.
Tracks: Pet Cemeter/Beat On The Brat.

Note: part one of a triple bill with ‘The Riplets’ and ‘Sidekick Bob’, playing the small Gouda venue the day our future king married. Hilarious, but great duo, playing ‘The Ramones’ on acoustic 12-string, tambourine and dressed up as The Ramones used to do, while gigging. Didn’t bring enough tapes, so taped two tracks only.
