Note: closing a row of gigs in Gouda, Mark played a full band set in a optimistic and relaxed mood. Due to some minor technical difficulties, some of the songs have too soft vocals. Nevertheless a great show and recording.

Leonheart, 'Studio Gonz' Gouda, Saturday July 12th 2014.

Leonheart (Rotterdam), 2-track recorded.
Saturday July 11th 2014, 'Studio Gonz' Gouda.
Tracks: Everybody Come On/Moving On/Fairytales/Fakes/Lost/Lion’s Heart.

Note: great srt by Leonheart-duo, in support of Mark Lotterman’s set later that night. Slightly noisy audience, which nevertheless got gripped several times during the set.

Saturday July 11th 2014, 'Studio Gonz' Gouda.
Tracks: Out Of Sight/The Valley Down Below/Dying With Me//The Boarman’s Call (Nick Cave-cover)/.

Note: solo performance of ‘Joe Madman & The Sidewalkers’ frontman, showcasing his songwriting and musical skills even better in this both fragile and strong performance. Support to Mark Lotterman, who played later that night.

Tracks: Set The World On Fire (Annihilator cover)/One More Day/UInknown ‘Iced Earth’ cover/Tout Le Monde.

Note: Metal-outfit ‘Smekmuk’ changed bassplayer, added a new singer and changed it’s name to ‘Exhilaration’. Eager to present new material, they walked by the studio for a chat, a spin of their work-in-progress demo and four acoustic live tracks. Nice guys, nice music.

Bismuth (Vleuten/Rotterdam), live on air.
Recorded: Sunday June 29th 2014, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Set 1/Set 2/Set 3/Set 4.

Note: for one of my annual Sports-summerbreak-shows ‘Eldoradio’, I invited Yuri Landman and Arnold van de Velde of improvisation duo ‘Bismuth’ for a chat and some liuve performances. It took them an hour to fill the studio with effects, homemade beatboxes, self designed and build instruments and contact-miked bottles of soft drinks, after which they played four lengthy pieces of improvised atonal soundscapes. Amazing stuff.

Leonheart, 'Live On Air', Friday June 20th 2014.

Leonheart (Gouda), live on air.
Recorded: Freiday June 20th 2014, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Everybody Come On/Moving On/Fairytales/Fakes/Leon’s Heart.

Note: Edwin Bol (Mint, Moonstar) dragged himself to the studio after a long emission in his musical career due to health problems, to let the world know he’s still alive and kicking with his new project Leonheart. Partner (in crime) Vanessa Boogert came home from a short holiday early that morning, so she stayed home for this occasion. His performance of five introspective, moody songs was breathtaking in it’s intensity. Still don’t know who is more gratefull for this performance.

Wolf In Loveland, 'Live On Air', Friday June 6th 2014.

Recorded: Friday June 6th 2014, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: The Best Part/Tattoos/La Brugère Song (For Ben Gerard)/The Devil Has No Home/Trumpets (.

Note: another visit to the studio by Merel, Jan and Bas, this time to promote their second album. A beautifull set, which not only captured their musical skills, but also rthe relaxed atmosphere within the band. Who partly resided on a sunny terrace on the outside market square, when they found out it was impossible to set up the full set they brought along from another radio slot earlier that day.

Little Trouble Kids, 'Brakke Grond' Amsterdam (Soundcheck only), Thursday June 5th 2014.

Little Trouble Kids (Ghent, Belgium), 2-track recorded.
Thursday June 5th 2014, 'Brakke Grond' Amsterdam.
Tracks: Tightrope (Soundcheck.

Note: getting in the venue a bit early, I walked into the stage-area to catch the tail of the soundcheck running late and tracked ten minutes of the soundcheck, comprising of two go’s on ‘Tightrope’. After which we had a truly great interview.

Ensor (), live on air.
Recorded: Friday May 23rd 2014, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: A Song To Cut Like A Knife.

Note: Bas Jacobs (Seedling, Pfaff, We Be Naked) came to the studio to tell more about the initiative ‘Off Amsterdam’ he’s involved with and to promote the release of the debut album by his new band Ensor. Never expected the tiny guitar-amp he brought along could make so much noise. Which suited the song he played very well

Joe Madman & The Sidewalkers (Alphen ad Rijn), live on air.
Recorded: Friday May 16th 2014, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Shake It Down/From The Day She’s Been Gone/Winter Waltz.

Note: To promote the upcoming release of their 10” EP one month later, this Psychedelic Garage Blues-trio came by for a chat and three very dedicated acoustic performances, despite mocking about during performances. Their acoustic rendition of ‘From The Day She’s Been Gone’ captures the energy of the electric EP version beautifully in it’s own sense.

Monday Special (Capelle ad IJssel/Rotterdam), live on air.
Recorded: Friday April 25th 2014, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Fuses/Mad About It/The Loaded Gun/The One.

Note: Bluesy Rock outfit came to me after a Mark Lotterman instore, to ask wether they could come to my show. So we settled a date at the spot. Their set was truly great, driven and enthusiastic. So much, I even had to ask one of the guitarists to watch himself putting his foot, as it’s tapping couyld be heard through a mike stand.

Recorded: March 28th 2014, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Brain Freeze.

Note: with a new drummer and a new album in the works, it was time to have an update on this legendary local metalband. Inbetween chats and playing of some demotracks, they played one of them acoustic as well. Returning to their early writing days.

Recorded: Saturday March 8th 2014, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Adios Nonino/Beethoven (TK 1-3)/Et Expecto Pt 1-3/Beethoven Tk 4.

Note: Registered for a living room festival early June 2014, I invited Yvo to tell more about his passion for classical accordion and a session. The session itself was intense, with the first take of the Beethoven piece rejected due to far too much compression. Takes 2-4 broke down. After the intense session a more than passionate, very intriguing and informing interview followed.

Chris Stubbe, Live 'On Air', Friday February 28th 2014.

Chris Stubbe (Haastrecht), live on air.
Recorded: Febryuary 28th 2014, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Dreams To Find/Perception/Reverie/When She Looked At Me That Way (Breakdown/When She Looked At Me That Way/Time*.

Note: after playing guitar in bands like ‘Quip!’ and supporting Ronald Hendriksen, Chris decided to give his songs a go on air, after working on them secluded for years. The deeper layered songs really touched me. And many others, as we learned after the show.
* ‘Time’ wasn’t played live on air, as we simply ran out of time, so we recorded it right after the show and aired it first thing the week after.

Mark Lotterman, 'Paradijskerk' Rotterdam, Friday February 7th 2014.

Mark Lotterman (Rotterdam), 2-track recorded.
Friday February 7th 2014, 'Paradijskerk' Rotterdam.
Tracks: I Need Something To Drink/The Hell That We Create/Scenes From Childhood/Year Without Summer/Love Is A Mountain Too High/Indie/Brighton/Hit Me When I’m Weak/It Ain’t Only Sorrow/Leaving For School/Rolling Stones/I Woke Up (Thinking That They Hate Me)/Almost 25/Too Stoned To Do It/I Miss You/Hotelroom In Rome/Funny (Encore).

Note: the day before Mark presented his 4th CD ‘Year Without Summer’, he asked me to make a frontal stage audience recording of the set, like I did December 20th 2013 in Gouda. Which I felt honoured to do. The presentation was held in a beautifuilly lit 19th century neo-classical Old-Catholic Church, with chandeleers, stainglass windows, arches and a beautifull echo all over the place. The church was packed and the atmosphere relaxed and joyfull. The perfect vsetting for Mark’s slightly stripped and personal songs. Which sounded so much better than the CD itself. Thrilling!

Mark Lotterman, 'In Session', Wednesday February 5th 2014.

Mark Lotterman (Rotterdam), In Session.
Recorded: February 5th 2014, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: The Hell That We Create/Rolling Stones.

Note: to promote his 4th album ‘Year Without Summer’, Mark came to the studio to pre-record an interview plus two live tracks, as the broadcast coincided with the release party. A slightly tired Mark had a great chat and played two great tracks.

Panc, Live 'On Air', Friday January 4th 2014.

Panc (Utrecht), live on air.
Recorded: January 4th 2014, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: De Eerste/Een Mensje/Alleen Ben Je Nergens.

Note: Former ‘Lame Art’ drummer Gijs Batelaan sold his drumkit in 2000, moved to Utrecht and started playing guitar. Besides becoming a guitar-teacher, he won a prestigious Jazz newcomers prize in 2007 and played with several musicians in and outside Holland. Just for fun he recorded a cover-version of an old hit by some Soapies, which sparked him to start writing and recording under the ‘Panc’ moniker. In the show he not only played three tracks live, but also aired the cover that started it (‘Ademnood’ (‘Breathless’) by Linda, Roios & Jessica) and a song her wrote for his then recently departed grandmother. A great, personal show by the brother of ‘Nancy Brick’ singer Rieneke.

'Kogel Door De Kapel'-Festival,Jeruzalemkapel Gouda, Friday December 20th 2013.

Kogel Door De Kapel-festival, 2-track recorded.
Friday December 20th 2013, ‘Jeruzalemkapel’ Gouda.

Note: three acoustic performances set in a candle-lit medieval chapel with phenomenal acoustics. Sold out completely, the sets were captured with a simple stereo recorder put in front of the performers. Capturing not only the music, but also the sounds, laughter and noises from the audience.
Organising duo Nancy Brick opened with their stripped songs, closing a huge string of livingroom concerts, that started October 2012. It was their last liveset right before the start of writing and recording material for their second album, due somewhere laste 2014.
Second to play was local singer Alex van Holstein, bringing his irony-loaden songs with much more passion than you might even think. Alas he withdrew recording permission at the last minute, so nothing of him was recorded.
Rotterdam singer Mark Lotterman played a truly breathtaking sets with new material, to be released on his 4th CD Year ‘Without Summer’ in February 2014. Nancy Brick (Gouda/Delft), 2-track recorded.
Tracks: Violins/In Your Mind/Sail/Pirate’s Ocean/Mountain/The Road/Nancy Brick/Silence.

Mark Lotterman (Rotterdam), 2-track recorded.
Tracks: Intro/It Ain’t Only Sorrow/Scenes From Childhood/The Hell That We Create/I Miss You/Year Without Summer/Rolling Stones/I Woke Up (Thinking That They Hate Me)/Hit Me When I’m Weak /Funny (Encore).
