Malignity 'Live On Air', friday November 25th 2016.

Malignity (Woerden/Gouda), live on air.
Recorded: Friday November 25th 2016, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Black Ghost Horse/Damiën/Cry For The Van Queen/Immortal Hate/Blood Lust.

Note: revamping the ‘Doorgeplugd’ concept, studioboss John challemged me, by proposing this 5 piece Heavy Metal band. Challenge accepted! Which turned ouit great, with making funny faces throughout the set, trying to make others laugh and intense, focused music throughout the set. During the show, the premiered two prerecorded tracks, of which one was an impromptu decision. Two days later, I still suffered from painfull belly muscles from laughing.

Gen D Experiment 'Live On Air', friday October 14th 2016.

Gen D Experiment (Zoetermeer/Delft/Gouda), live on air.
Recorded: Friday October 14th 2016, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: General Disarray/Faking It In Montreux/Two Rivers/Hacienda/Gone Wrong.

Note: one-off Progrock project that ran quite out of hand and is now a steady band. Second gig only, first ever live ‘On Air’, so they used some tracks as an online demo. With former members of a.o. Gandillion, the music was inventively structured. Young keyboardist (13) sure played a big part in the whole sound, which is great to hear. Fun time in the studio, despite hardly any space left to walk.

Maggie & The Jar 'In Session', friday August 12th 2016.

Maggie & The Jar (Amsterdam/Gouda), In Session.
Recorded:Friday August 12th 2016, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Half A Heart (Take 1)/What You Want Now/Feel Me/Half A Heart (Take 2).

Note: this female fronted rockband from Amsterdam dropped by the studio for a prerecorded interview and three acoustic songs, prior to their gig in local club ‘Studio Gonz’. First ever acoustic set came out greatly. First sonmg was retaped, as there were a few mistakes. As the whole thing was filmed by the band, a videoclip of ‘Half A Heart’ was published on Youtube the next day, merging images of both takes over the second audio take. Great warming up for the set they played later that night.

The live clip of 'Half A Heart', recorded during this session: https://youtu.be/O6R_4msnR6w

Ricky de Sire 'Live On Air', friday July 22nd 2016.

Ricky de Sire (Rotterdam), live on air.
Recorded: Friday July 22nd 2016, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Koester De Hoer/Gratis Kalenders/Minister President/De Vreemde Psyche/Smerig Zusje/Nevelen Der Toekomst/In Het Dove Oor.

Note: second visit by Rotterdam alternative singer-songwriter Ricky de Sire, bringing along a keyboardplayer (Arpatle) and a guitarist. Great, slightly disconnected songs, that shed a complete new angle on daily things. Somewhat loud voice throughout the set, which was filmed by a team from a nationwide operating label. Love it!

The Surfaders 'Live On Air', June 17th 2016.

Surfaders (Gouda/Zoetermeer/The Hague/Utrecht), live on air.
Recorded: Friday June 17th 2016, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Creature From Beyond The Reef/Beware Of The Ghost Rocket/The Cuban Spy & I (Shaken, Not Stirred)/Dust From The Sun/Thoughts Of A Bikini Philosopher/Sarpha/Teenage Rendez-Vous/Sharkbait/Apache (The Shadows, but Metallica-lized).

Note: great surfband, consisting of members formerly active in Metal, Punk and Progbands. Focussed, relaxed set, with a huge tongue-in-cheek cover at the very end. Despite it being a rainy day.

Huxley 'Live On Air', friday June 10th 2016.

Huxley (Haastrecht/Gouda), live on air.
Recorded: Friday June 10th 2016, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Lovers Season/Me And My Brother/The Day.Sundance/Mind At Large/On My Knees/The Living/Echoes (Pink Floyd).

Note: former Quip! Guitarist Chris Stubbe started Huxley in 2015, after a shortlived solo singersongwriter career, he didn’t feel comfortable with in the end. The trio is well inspired by the likes of The Doors and Pink Floyd, while blending their blues-driven, slightly psychedelic sound with motre contemporary tunings.

Getting their gear into the studio was another thing, as both the Hammond and it’s accompanying rotating Lesley speaker were just an inch smaller than the hallway we had to squeeze it through. The unusual door- and bike removing did the trick in the end, making this a great, powerfull performance. The final minute of “Echoes” was nearly cut by the earlier end of the show, but a quick pushing of buttons got it saved for eternity.

Meijer 'Live On Air', friday May 20th 2016.

Meijer (Rotterdam/Maastricht), live on air.
Recorded: Friday May 20th 2016, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Het Voordeel Van De Twijfel/Miles Davis In Parijs/De Liefste Leugen (Session).

Note: former school teacher Ruud Meijer revisited the city he taught pupils English and French for 21 years, to promote his recently released Dutch language album ‘Vrouwen’. Together with Nick Roelofsen they played two songs during the show and chatted so long, the third track was scrapped from the broadcast and recorded afterwards. Amazing jazzy tracks.

Mevrouw Tamara 'In Session', thursday May 19th 2016.

Mevrouw Tamara (Gouda), In Session.
Recorded: Thursday May 19th 2016, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Leiden/Zit Ik Vast I (Take 1, Breakdown)/Zit Ik Vast I (Take 2)//In My Cocoon.

Note: Dutch language si-so, who lived in Gouda for a short period and became known Nationwide as contestant of ‘Beste Singer Songwriter van Nederland’ television show. Being registered as one of the performing acts of local livingroom festival, I decided to invite her to the studio for a nice chat and some great, fragile songs. For which she brought two huge bags stuffed with equipment.

Romy Westerbeke 'Live On Air', May 6th 2016.

Romy Westerbeke (Gouda), live on air.
Recorded: Friday May 6th 2016, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Empty Walls/Love Me/From Heart To Heart/Weak (Skunk Anansie)/It’s All About The Money (Session)/Empty Walls (Session).

Note: former bassplaser of Ronald Hendriksen, Romy finally decided to do her own songs, after Ronald’s band dissolved. Dynamic songs, played with guitar, ukulele and cajon, which truly surprised me, as it did others too. Last two tracks were recorded after the show had ended, because thewy completely forgot to play ‘It’s All About The Money’, while they redid ‘Empty Walls’ because the initial version had a bad stereo configuration.

Tabasquo 'Live On Air', friday April 22nd 2016.

Tabasquo (Gouda/Reeuwijk), live on air.
Recorded: Friday April 22nd 2016, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: 3 unknown toitled tracks.

Note: to promote the locals livestage on Kings Day (April 27th), the bands Tabasquo and 3/5th of The Surfaders dropped by to chat on their upcoming appearances. Young trio Tabasquo played three slightly chaotic acoustic tracks, featuring Rick on guitar and lead vocals. Promising though.

Mark Lotterman 'Live On Air', friday April 8th 2016.

Mark Lotterman (Rotterdam), live on air.
Recorded: Friday April 8th 2016, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Satellite Of Love (Lou Reed).

Note: as part of his release-project ‘Holland’, Mark came to the studio to talk about the fourth track of this (then) forthcoming album: Lou Reed. Inbetween extensive chatting about the musician and his influence on Mark, we played several lesser known Lou Reed tracks and Mark performed this incredible version of one of his personal favourites.

Eve Of Dawn 'In Session', unknown dates in April 2016.

Eve Of Dawn (Gouda/Haastrecht), In Session.
Recorded: April 2016, ‘Rehearsal Studio Haastrecht.
Tracks: Another Day/Breathe.

Note: New wave band, who came together again after a well received reunion gig in April 2010. due to busy schedules, the band wasn’t able to come to the studio for a liveset. Instead they recorded these two tracks especially for the occasion, which were broadcast together with their brandnew single ‘In Memories We Meet’ and an interview, recorded right after shooting the video for that song.

Monday Special 'Live On Air', friday March 25th 2016.

Monday Special (Rotterdam/Capelle ad IJssel), live on air.
Recorded: Friday March 25th 2016, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Wanted/The One/Paper Hearts/Loaded Gun/Fuses/Do Me In (False start)/Do Me In/The Hounds/System.

Note: Blues infused Indierock from Rotterdam area, making their second appearance in the show. Electrified this time. During soundcheck the singer had some electrical sizzles, which were solved before the show started. Steaming performance, alas saved in mono, due to a system hangup.

Joost van Kersbergen 'Live On Air', friday March 18th 2016.

Joost van Kersbergen (Amsterdam), live on air.
Recorded: Friday March 18th 2016, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Je Ontsnapt Niet Aan Jezelf/Willem/No Title/Alleen De Duivel/.

Note: former radio collegue and part of the 90’s-early 2000’s local hiphop scene, Joost moved to Dutch language, early Blues and Jazz inspired music, before moving to Amsterdam. He now writes poetry and performs his music anywhere, acting as ‘Instant songwriter’. The song “Willem” is about Willem van Rooijen, a local discarded metal collector, who roamed the streets for over 60 years and who had recently died.

Stems 'In Session', friday February 26th 2016.

Stems (UK), In Session.
Recorded: Friday February 26th 2016, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Bawn/Eclipse: The Courting Of The Sun And Moon/Ygre.

Note: Uk trio, merging improvised electric guitar and drums with Classical cello, based on 12th century clerical and Indian musical structures. The cinematic result was recorded on an early afternoon session, as the band had to play Leiden that evening. Amazing stuff.

Sommerhus 'In Session', friday February 12th 2016.

Sommerhus (Rotterdam), In Session.
Recorded: Friday February 12th 2016, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: On Returning (Take 1, breakdown)/On Returning (Take 2)/Haunting/Lost For Words/Dreamer’s Street/Nancy’s Wish/Is There Such A Thing As Too Much Love?/Denmark (Take 1, breakdown)/Denmark (Take 2).

Note: Being booked for the avening, Vera and Peter came to the studio in the early afternoon, to record this session, plus an interview to promote their latest release ‘Is There Such A Thing As Too Much Love?’. As some sound problems caused the first song to break down, the last track eeded a retake, as half of the duo forgot the melody for a moment. Aired that same day.

Nienke Deiters 'In Session', friday January 29th 2016.

Nienke Deiters (Arnhem), In Session.
Recorded: January 29th 2016, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: Rainy Days/Lonely Man/Train Of Thoughts/Dreaming During Daytime//Hoist The Sails/Taste Of Colour/Magnet.

Note: scvheduled as a live broadcast, things fell through as the broadcast system went down two seconds before air time. Having everything prepared, we decided to record the show anyway and reschedule airing time. Despite being somewhat shy, Nienke delivered 8 beautifull songs, fragile at times. Aired in February 2016.

Daydream Delusion 'Live On Air', friday January 22nd 2016.

Daydream Delusion (Gouda/Moordrecht/Utrecht), live on air.
Recorded: January 22nd 2016, ‘Gouwestad Radio Studio 2.
Tracks: You Should Have Known/Suicide/Sea/Child/Train/”Bla”/Heroine.

Note: Alternative rock with a slightly dark edge, that had some enthusiastic support from nationwide 3FM DJ Herman, entered the studio for a liveset, one week before the release of their debut album. The band was driven and the set intense. Great way to start a new year of live radio.

Kinderboerderij Benefiet, Kinderboerderij 'De Goudse Hofsteden', saturday June 13th 2015.

Kinderboerderij-Benefiet: Jana de Heer, Pip Mariah Alblas & Ron Baggerman (Gouda/The Hague), 2-track recorded.

(Bob Marley). Encore: We Can’t Stop (Miley Cyrus)/Weather With You (Crowded House)/Sexy Als Ik Dans (Nielson)/La Bamba (Ritchie Valens).

Note: Gouda’s educational kiddy farmhouse was threatened with closure, after the city council decided to cut severely on their subsidising. To raise money, they held some benefits. As they couldn’t arrange a soundman for this night, I was asked to help out. Occupied that night, I passed it on to my radio collegue Ton Dekker, who did the job and also recorded all sets. Jana and friends were the first to play a set of covers.

Jana & Ron BaggermanValerie (Amy Winehouse)/Proud Mary (Creedence Clearwater Revival)/.
Note: At the end of the set Ziggystick-virtuoso and multi-instrumentalkist Ron Baggerman joined Jana for some tracks.

Pip Mariah Alblas & Ron Baggerman:New Soul (Yael Naim)/Walking On Sunshine (Catherina & The Waves)
Note: After Jana and Ron finished their sets, Pip came on stage and played some more tracks with Ron, before she started her own set.

Pip Mariah Alblas: Hey Little Monkey/Kiss Me (Sixpence None The Richer)/Walls Around Her Heart/Proof/Put Your Records On (Corrine Bailey Rae)/Where I Feel “Okay”/Fix You (Coldplay)/Blame It All On You/Something On The Side.

Note: Fuelled up by her performances during ‘The Voice Of Holland’ TV shows, Pip worked hard on her own set of songs, which she played this night. She was in the middle of a crowdfunding to get her debut-EP financed. This EP was released in November 2015 and contained most of the tracks played this night.
